“Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they?” – Matthew 6:26

I have always done maintenance on my own cars. I am a little OCD, and I do a lot of research on the proper way to do things. I take the safety of my family and the other people on the road very seriously, so I want to make sure everything is done right. In fact, I take a lot of pride in being able to do this work myself and do it well. So, you can imagine how much it broke my heart one day when my daughter was scared because I was doing a brake job on our family car myself. “Are you sure you know how to do that, dad? Wouldn’t it be better to take it to a shop and have professionals do it?” She was not confident the car would be safe after I had done the work. Now, in her defense, I had been going through a lot of neurological problems for several years, so her concerns were not completely unwarranted. But still, I can think of very few times when I have felt more brokenhearted than when my little girl no longer trusted her dad to keep her safe.

Have you ever thought about the fact that a life of worry is, at least partially, a life of unbelief? When you are anxious, you are, in effect, saying, “God, you are not able to take care of me.” Stress is a direct result of a failure to trust God. I know every one of us falls and every one of us falters in our faith at times. However, if you spend a great deal of your time in stress and anxiety, then you must take a long hard look at your faith. Is your Heavenly Father God, or is he not? Is he capable of taking care of the ones he loves, or is he not?

Almighty, all-powerful, loving Heavenly Father, we trust You. We trust, not only Your perfect love for us, but Your unlimited ability to care for us, provide for us, and keep us safe for all eternity. Give us faith when we are faithless and comfort us with Your powerful love.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Shane Cannon
