“I am at rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.” – Psalm 62:1
Life has been crazy lately! I have a 4th grader, 6th grader, freshman, and junior at home right now, and they are right in the middle of what seems to be the busiest time of the year for us. There are so many activities, it’s tough to keep it all straight. Also, I have one daughter who is in her first semester of college in a different state. Trying to get finances and jobs figured out for her while she is so far away has been a real challenge. In addition to that, I have been dealing with a lot of challenges concerning my personal health. And I almost forgot, I am pastoring a very busy and growing church. All this has added up to a lot of chaos! I have been asking myself all morning, “how in the world am I going to deal with all this?!” Then I read Psalm 62:1…
This verse does not just say, “I am at rest in God.” It says, “I am at rest in God alone.” Over my life, I have dealt with a lot of chaotic seasons, a lot of health issues, and a lot of tragedies. If your peace comes from life always working out beautifully, then you will never live in peace. Our rest…our true rest…only comes from one place; it comes from knowing you have a beautiful relationship with God that exists only through the salvation accomplished by Jesus Christ on the cross. Nothing else in the world will be able to provide that peace, no matter how great (or how chaotic) life is. So, I encourage you, instead of chasing all the other things, chase your relationship with God. Know him deeper. Love him more. It is only there that you will find rest.
Heavenly Father, forgive me for seeking peace in places other than You. I need rest. In the midst of my daily struggles, help me to focus on You and recognize that true rest only comes from You.
In Christ’s Service,
