“Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17

I have recently had the privilege of team-teaching a discipleship class alongside a man named Mark. This man is a bit younger than me (okay…he is A LOT younger than me).  As I began this endeavor with Mark, I viewed it as an opportunity to disciple him. And though I’m sure that has taken place, there has been much more mutual growth than I had expected.

I have learned a lot from him. His passion for always turning our conversations back to Scripture has challenged me to revisit my own teaching methods and adjust anything that does not point back to the Bible. I always leave our time together refreshed and excited about ministry.

The truth is, no matter what ministry you are involved in, we always lead better together.” Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their efforts” (Ecclesiastes. 4:9).

So, let me ask you today; what are you doing alone that you can and should be doing alongside a brother or sister? Spend some time this morning and think about the things in your life that would be much more fruitful if you had someone with you. Then pray for God to reveal who that person is, go get them, and get to work.

God, remove the “Lone Ranger” mentality from our churches. Give us a passion to work together. Give us the wisdom to look around and find the men and women who can and should do the labor alongside us. Then empower us for effective ministry as we work together for your Kingdom.

In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Shane Cannon
