“But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception.” – Hebrews 3:13
I always have to laugh when we come around to this time of year, because, during the holidays, we like to assign some sort of significance to every single day that passes. After Thanksgiving we have “Black Friday,” followed by “Cyber Monday,” and then, more recently, “Giving Tuesday.” While I am glad that we are taking time to focus on charity and generosity, I do find it interesting that this day comes after we have spent all our money on the things we want! Despite all this, I do love the holidays and it is a wonderful thing to take special time to celebrate thankfulness on Thanksgiving, the incredible act of God becoming a man on Christmas, and the beautiful sacrifice and resurrection that provides for our Salvation on Easter. However, as Christians we shouldn’t wait for a special day of the year to celebrate these things. The story of Jesus Christ and what He has done should be the theme of our lives. We should always be excited to talk about and celebrate these things. I am reminded of the old hymn, “I love to tell the story, ‘twill be my theme in glory, to tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love.” There is a special day set aside for the purpose of encouraging one another in these incredible truths of God…it is called “today”!
Father, give us the wisdom to see the beauty and opportunity in today, and to redeem every day for Your purposes.
