“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.” – Psalm 139:11-12

I have a good friend who, because of some health problems, has moments of blindness when he walks from indoors out into the sunlight. For a few minutes, he is unable to see anything. Knowing this, his wife always takes him by the hand and guides him for those first few moments until his eyesight returns. She is able to do this because her eyes are not affected. She sees perfectly well indoors or out in the sunlight, and she loves her husband and wants him to be safe.

We are probably all very aware of our own shortcomings. We all have dark areas and dark moments in our lives; moments where we are lost and afraid. But it is important to remember that we have one whose vision is perfect and whose guidance is readily available. Even in the darkest moments of our lives, God is never absent or lost. He is right there, holding our hand and guiding us safely through.

Lord, please hold our hand, give us guidance, and keep us safe; even in the darkest times.
