“He will not fear bad news; his heart is confident, trusting in the Lord.” – Psalm 112:7

If you are riding in the car with someone and suddenly, they swerve to one side and then back to the middle, there are two reactions you could have. One is, “get me out of the car with this crazy person!” The other is, “I wonder what danger in the road they were trying to avoid?” What really determines which reaction you would have? Whether or not you trust them. When you trust the person, you assume they have your best interest at heart, even if they do something that completely catches you of guard. On the other hand, when you don’t trust the person, their erratic actions would cause you a great amount of fear.

When God throws us for a loop in life and seems to give us something completely out of left field, it is a good opportunity to ask yourself, “do I trust him?” Are you scared to death and ready to jump ship? Or are you living under the assumption that, even in God’s seemingly erratic actions, he is always working for your good? I encourage you to take some time today and read Psalm 91. Meditate on this passage and ask God to make these things a reality in your heart. Commit today to live in confidence of God’s protection. Know that, in all his actions, even the ones that catch you completely off guard, he is working for your good.

Almighty God, we thank You for Your powerful hand and watchful eye. Help us to see that all Your actions are for our good. Give us such confidence in You that we live under the immediate assumption that every event in life, even the scary ones, are really the protection of our loving Heavenly Father.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Shane Cannon
