“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6
This passage in the book of Proverbs holds two great keys for everyday living. First and foremost, we need to trust in the Lord over our own understanding. It seems silly and arrogant to say, “I know more than God.” However, by living a life that is not in submission to Him, we are essentially saying exactly that. We have to acknowledge and then live out the truth that God’s way is the only way that is pure and right.
Secondly, we must continue this practice in all of our ways, not just on certain occasions. Satan loves to ambush us. He loves to catch us when we least expect it. So how do we guard against that? We have God and His ways on the forefront of our mind, not just in the difficult times, but in every moment of every day. Make a conscious effort to be in conversation with God, and following His will in every detail of your life, no matter how small. Doing this keeps us on the right path and away from the enemy in both the large scale attacks and the everyday ambushes.
