“There’s a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish—but what are they for so many?” – John 6:9
There is a wonderful story in John chapter 6 where Jesus decides to feed a large crowd that has come to hear him teach. As a test, he asks the disciples how they are going to afford to feed all these people, even though he already knows what he is going to do. They are overwhelmed, because there is no way they could afford to feed such a huge group. I am not sure what comes over Andrew at this point, but he pulls up this young boy with just a few fish and loaves of bread and says, “Maybe this will help!” If you think about it, it is really a comical scene. But Jesus takes this boy’s meager provisions and feeds thousands. And when it is all said and done, there are 12 baskets full of leftovers!
Let me ask you this today; what are your meager provisions? What do you have that seems like it will never be enough to accomplish the huge work that God has for you to do? Are you short on talent, short on money, or short on education? No problem! Alistair Begg puts it this way; “God takes unmanageable situations and unbelievably limited resources and multiplies them for the well-being of others and the glory of His name.” Whatever God has given you is enough to accomplish whatever it is he has called you to do. Offer it up to him and see what amazing abundance he can create!
Lord, today we offer our meager provisions up to You. We recognize that all our resources can accomplish nothing in our own hands. But we also understand that what little we have can be infinitely multiplied in Your hands. Use our little to do great things for Your glory.
