“See! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” – Revelation 3:20

There have been a few times in my life when someone pretty important has reached out to me and asked to get together. This always feels really good. This person is busy and has a lot of people jockeying for their time. So, the fact that they approached me is special. When this does happen, I usually try fairly hard to make time for them. This is an illustration (that falls incredibly short) of how we should feel when considering the fact that God desires to be with us. There is no way we could ever reach out to him unless he takes the initiative. It is only through his amazing grace that we have a relationship with him. We know him only because he has come to us.

But let’s take this one step further…God doesn’t just want to grab a quick lunch. He allows us to affect him. He is not simply taking a moment to humor us peons, he desires the kind of relationship where our lives have deep impact on him. He mourns our failures, celebrates our victories, and weeps with us in our pain. Why would the God of all creation decide to have such intimacy with us?! We are so undeserving! Do you truly appreciate the fact that he stands at the door and knocks? Do you desire to take advantage of that time with him, or do you leave him standing outside? Take time today to fellowship with the One who has stepped down from eternity to be with you.

Lord God Almighty and Loving Heavenly Father, help us to recognize the incredible privilege of knowing You, and more so, the incredible truth that You desire to know us. Let us take time today to set aside our menial tasks in order to open the door and spend time with you.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Shane Cannon
