“You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.” – Matthew 5:14
There is a good chance you have heard this saying of Jesus many times before and, possibly, you have not given it much thought. But today I want to draw your attention to the builder in this illustration. Someone, with great planning and cost, intentionally placed this city on a hill. It was not an accident. If it had been the builder’s purpose, even for a season, to hide his city, he would have never built it on a hill. You see, a city on a hill cannot be hidden.
In the same way, great planning and cost has gone into your salvation and the purpose behind your new life. God did not resurrect you and give you new birth through Jesus Christ so that you can, at times, hide it from the world. The truth is, you cannot be hidden, because God has a much bigger purpose for you. So I encourage you today to let your light shine before all the men and women in your life, so that they will look at what God has done in you and give glory to Him.
Father, forgive us for our meager attempts to hide our light. Give us the courage to shine brightly and fulfill the purpose we have been created for.
