“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
Recently, I have been dealing with some health problems that have been very challenging for me. My health problems are not especially serious, and many people face much greater difficulties. However, my personal health problems are such a struggle because of my pride. I love being strong and healthy, and I hate to admit weakness. My recent struggles have forced me to admit my weakness and lean once again on Christ.
May years ago, the well known preacher and author John Piper was speaking to a group of students in Aspen, Colorado. During the question and answer session, one young man stood up and asked, “Isn’t Christianity a crutch for people who can’t make it on their own?” To which Piper simply replied, “Yes.” When recalling this event, John Piper goes on to say that the problem is not that Christianity is a crutch; the problem is that we don’t like to admit we are crippled. We are broken, and we need help; help that can only come from Jesus Christ. This is not only true for our Salvation, but it is true as we walk with Christ every day.
Heavenly Father, let our pride fall down so that we can admit our brokenness and come to you for strength and healing.
In Christ’s Service,
