“He said to him, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” – Matthew 22:37

What does it mean to “know God”? Surely it means more than just knowing things about God, because Satan knows more about God than any of us, and yet lives in opposition to Him. In our day and age, it is easy to get caught up in debates and arguments about religion and who God is. This, in turn, often leads us into the mistake of thinking those who know the most information about God truly know God. When the Bible talks about us knowing God, it is always in the context of a relationship; and when we are in Christ, this relationship has moved from that of a Master and his servants to that of a Father and his children. It is always fruitful to learn more about God. However, we do not truly know God unless we also daily walk with Him; asking Him our toughest questions, relying on Him for our daily provision, trusting Him with our lives, and calling on Him for rescue and deliverance. To know God is to truly love Him with everything you are; all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind…and the most incredible thing is that God desires this kind of intimacy with us!

Father, help us to never fall into the trap of having just a theoretical knowledge of You, and not a practical one. We want to experience, and not just contemplate the Truths of You. We want intimacy. Thank You that this is Your desire as well.
