“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” – Colossians 4:5
As followers of Jesus Christ we should always be conscious of our actions in public. That truth is even more important in our day and age because the realm of “public” has grown tremendously. We may not think about it on a regular basis, or even realize it, but our actions in the online and social media realm are public actions. There appears to be a disconnect when we sit behind a keyboard or look through the screen of our phone. We are often bold in our ignorance and without grace in our opinions. Though many of us would never act this way in a physically public setting, we can easily slip into this behavior through the false sense of privacy that comes with an online exchange. We must be wise in the way we act, especially in the presence of those outside of Christ
This consciousness of our actions, however, should not be some “pretend life” or some façade. Intentional wisdom in our actions serves a very specific purpose; we should always be making the very most of every opportunity we have to show Jesus to those around us. The people you interact with in physical settings are just as important as those you interact with online. Those who read your posts are just as much loved by Jesus as those you shake hands with at the grocery store or go to lunch with at work. Every time you speak up, whether online with your phone or inline at the grocery store, is an opportunity to show the love Jesus Christ to those who desperately need him.
Almighty God, fill us with Your wisdom and Your love as we interact with the world around, regardless of the setting.
In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Shane Cannon
