“I remember the days of old; I meditate on all you have done; I reflect on the work of your hands.” – Psalm 143:5

Most of us cannot wait to be done with 2020. This year has been incredibly difficult in so many ways. COVID-19 has affected almost every aspect of our lives. We have lost jobs, lost community, and even lost loved ones this year. And though we know 2021 will continue to have difficulties, we are hopeful that in the coming year there will be strides made in getting our world back to normal. We hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

However, I want to caution you today against being so quick to forget this last year. When you are a follower of Christ, no trial is wasted. No matter how difficult things were in 2020, God was still working in your life. If you did not see God’s hand in this last year, then you are not looking hard enough. I would encourage you to take time in the next couple days and, instead of forgetting about 2020, reflect on all that took place. Pray and ask God to show you how he was working amid the trials. There are countless lessons from the last year and many opportunities to grow, but every one of these will be missed unless you take time to reflect on all that God has done.

Almighty God, Sovereign over all the earth, we take time today to reflect on all You have done over the last year. Loving Father, show us the work of Your hands in the chaos of life.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Shane Cannon
