“Look up to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and its inhabitants will die in like manner. But My salvation will last forever, and My righteousness will never be shattered.” – Isaiah 51:6 (HCSB)
If you are like me, then you are often saddened and discouraged by the state of our modern world. On a daily basis we see corrupt politicians, greedy businessmen, and immoral spiritual leaders. When these truths hit home in a personal way, the results can be very painful. However, if the truth about the state of this fallen world leaves us hopeless, then our hope was set in the wrong place, and these painful experiences serve to reset our foundation. Never be fooled into putting your hope in any rock other than the Rock of Ages. Charles Spurgeon says, “Happy storm that wrecks a man on such a rock as this! O blessed hurricane that drives the soul to God and God alone!” So be thankful for your current storm. Thank God for removing anything that tries to pull your hope away from Him and Him alone! Father continue to work in ways that draw us closer to you. Even if those ways are often difficult and frightening.
