“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord cares for me.” – Psalm 27:10
Rejection. That is a painful word. We have all experienced it in some fashion, whether from an employer, friend, loved one, or even our own parents. The closer the person, the more painful the rejection. The pain of rejection often makes us question our own self-worth. “There must be something wrong with me if that person does not want me around.” The wounds of rejection can be deep and long-lasting. So, what could heal that hurt? What is the answer to the pain of rejection? How can my self-worth be restored?
What if I told you there was someone more powerful, more perfect, and more important than anyone else in your life? And what if I told you that person has always loved you and will always care for you? When we have come to know God through Jesus Christ, rejection is no longer a possibility in that relationship (Romans 8:1). And if the perfect, all-powerful God of all the universe will never stop loving you, then let your worth reside in that relationship. What human rejection could possibly taint your worth in light of God’s never-ending love for you? In next week’s devotion we will talk about how to deal with the person who rejected you. But for today, just stop and praise God for his unbreakable, perfect love for you so that you can stand strong in the face of rejection next time it comes.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the unending love that You have for us. Help us to find our worth in You and not in the approval of others. Give us power to never again be destroyed through human rejection.
In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Shane Cannon
