Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
  2 Corinthians 3:17

This verse has been used and misused to preach a lot of different kinds of “freedom.” However, when we look at it in context, we see that it is talking about a very specific kind of freedom: the freedom to enter the presence of God. I’m not sure if the culprit is a numbness to the message of Christ, Christians who propagate a “cheap grace,” or something else; but it seems that we have come to believe that entering the presence of God is a mundane and common thing. God’s presence, for a sinful man, should be the most fearful place imaginable. To stand in the presence of a righteous and holy God with all my sin and shame on display is a thought that I cannot even bear. However, when we are in Christ, not only is our sin and shame thrown to the ends of the earth but we stand there, in God’s presence, reflecting the glory of Jesus Christ. Any other freedom we could imagine or wish for is rubbish when compared to the freedom to stand boldly in the presence of Almighty God! Lord, God our Father, we can never thank You or repay You for the incredible privilege we receive when You freely and completely open up Your presence to us through Jesus Christ. Help us to always stand before You in reverence, awe, and thankfulness.
