“Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand markedoff the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?” – Isaiah 40:12
My dad is a big, strong man. He is strong in every sense of the word. As a child I can remember holding his hand and thinking how incredibly huge it was. Dad’s big hand made me feel safe. I knew that this big, strong hand belonged to the one who loved me deeply and kept me from harm. Psalm 40:12 accomplishes the same thing for me in my relationship with God. Look out at the ocean and imagine that God poured it out of the palm of His hand to fill the earth. That huge hand belongs to the One who loves you and keeps you safe.
As we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ this Easter Sunday, this truth becomes all the more important. You see, the very same Spirit who brought Jesus back from the grave is powerful to deliver us from death into life for all eternity; “And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.” (Romans 8:11)
