“Oh, the depth of the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments and untraceable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” – Romans 11:33-34
What do you like to study? We each have a certain subject or two that interest us. And if you don’t think you do, simply go through your browser history or check out your Netflix favorites list. There is definitely a subject or two that you spend the most amount of time on. Charles Spurgeon says, “The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy that can ever engage the attention of a child of God is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father.” Can any of us disagree with that statement? Is there anything more worthy of study than God? Is there any pursuit more honorable or important than knowing God better? I would say no!
So why is it we often spend our time on anything other than studying God’s Word and knowing him better. I am sure there are many reasons, but one of them has to be the eternal vastness of God. When we study earthly things, even if it is just our favorite streaming series or favorite sports team, we can very easily become “experts.” However, one thing you will quickly learn as you study God is that there will always be more to know. The deeper you look the more you appreciate the unending depth and breadth of the one we call Father. But don’t let that truth hinder you! Any time you spend knowing God better is time well spent. So be intentional and diligent. Seek God, study God, walk with God, and know him better. I promise, you will never regret time spent with your heavenly Father.
Almighty unending God and intimate Father, forgive us for all the trivial things we place before You. Fill us with a deep desire to know You better and then guide us as we pursue a deeper relationship with You.
In Christ’s Service,
