“All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17
As many of you already know, working on old cars is my hobby. I love when I have a free day to just spend in the garage wrenching on my Mustang or my old truck. I am always excited as I get everything set up…I put the car up on jack stands, get the tools out, and unbox the parts. With that being said, there is one thing that will instantly deflate all the excitement; that is realizing I do not own the specific tools I need to get the job done. Maybe I can’t get the tool right away, or maybe I just can’t afford it at the time. But whichever it is, realizing I am not equipped to do the job will instantly take the wind out of my sails and ruin the whole day.
Have you ever come to a situation in life where you feel like you are just not equipped to get the job done? That can be frustrating, depressing, or just outright scary. 2 Timothy 3 tells us that the tools for living a healthy life are available to us through Scripture. You hear that and you might be a little skeptical. You might say, “I have read some of the Bible. It is confusing and not helpful.” Well, the Bible is most helpful when it is studied in community. You need to hear sound preaching, you need to be part of a healthy Bible study group, and you need good mentors in your life. Through those things, I really do believe that Scriptures holds the key to equipping us for any situation in life. Have you ever felt you just don’t have the tools to get through the day? Well, find a good preacher, find a good Bible study, and find someone to disciple you. Those things will all do a great deal to cure you of the frustration, depression, and fear that comes from being ill-equipped for life.
Heavenly Father and Almighty God, equip us through Your Word. Surround us with the community we need to properly study and apply your Scripture. Give us the tools we need for life.
