“Come and listen, all who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for me.” – Psalm 66:16
Last night I had the privilege of speaking to a doctorate seminar on the subject of “spiritual formation through suffering.” I have been a guest speaker on this subject many times and it gives me the opportunity to share how God has grown me and shaped me through some of the most difficult times in my life. Obviously, I hope that my words are insightful, encouraging, and useful to those who attend the class. However, one major reason I am always quick to take this opportunity to speak is because of the great benefit it holds for me personally. Every time I walk back through these difficult times by sharing the stories with others, I remember the incredible support from my wife, my family, and my church. I recall how God continued to hold me close even when I was angry with him. I am reminded of how God was always faithful and always delivered me even when I had lost hope. I am encouraged to keep moving forward with the calling he has placed on my life.
When I share the story of how God has worked in my past, I am strengthened and encouraged to see what God has planned for my future. This is why I want to encourage you to take some time and share your story with someone this week. Find a friend, or family member, or coworker and let them know how God has walked you through some of your most difficult times. I believe God will use your story to work in that person’s life. But I know that God will also use that time to remind you of how good and faithful he has been throughout your life. Share how God has worked in your life, not only because the people around you need to hear it, but because you need to hear it too.
Heavenly Father, You have been nothing but good and faithful through every trial. Teach us to share those stories and sing of Your faithfulness every day so that others would hear, and we would remember, what an amazing God You are.
In Christ’s Service,
