“David said, ‘My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house that is to be built for the Lord must be exceedingly great and famous and glorious in all the lands. Therefore, I will make provision for it.’ So David made lavish preparations for it before his death.” – 1 Chronicles 22:5

Toward the end of his life, King David had a deep desire to build an incredible sanctuary where the nation of Israel could worship the one true God. However, God told David it was not his place to do this, but it would be his son Solomon that would get the incredible honor of building the temple. Even though David could not fulfill his dream during his lifetime, he made sure that his son had absolutely everything he needed, from plans to materials to craftsman, in order to accomplish this work. David could not build the temple of God he had always dreamed of, but he could make sure his son had all the resources required to succeed.

As you live out your Christian life, you quickly realize you will never be able to accomplish all the things that you desire. There is so much more to be done for God’s Kingdom than you could ever accomplish during your time on earth. However, there are those coming after you that God will use for his work as well. How are you preparing the generations to come? Are you investing in the young believers around you so that they will be well equipped for all God calls them to do? Take some time today and ask God to show you the young men and women around you who he is using for his work. Ask him what you can do to prepare them to accomplish the Kingdom work you have always dreamed of seeing done.

Heavenly Father, as we go about Your work, keep us mindful of our limited time on this earth. Give us the wisdom to equip the next generation for the work of Your Kingdom so that You will be glorified long after we leave this earth.
