“Oh, the depth of the riches and the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments and untraceable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? And who has ever given to God, that he should be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.” – Romans 11:33-36
In Romans 11 Paul gives an extended explanation of God’s plan to bring both the Jews and the Gentiles to himself. What seemed like a hopeless situation for both ends up being exactly what led them to be reconciled to God; and this was God’s plan from the very beginning! At the end of the chapter, when Paul reflects on this incredible glimpse into the mind of God, it leads him into spontaneous worship. How incredible it must be to get a glimpse into the mind of God?! How could you help but fall down in worship when you see what God has planned and what God has done?! Don’t you wish you could get a glimpse into the mind of God?! How amazing it must be to hear God’s voice?!
Well, actually, we have not only a glimpse but an intimate view into the mind of God; it is called the Bible. Paul heard God’s voice and was overwhelmed with praise; we take God’s Word and let it gather dust on the end table. Do we realize what an incredible privilege it is that God has shown us his plans and shared with us his thoughts? When we hold the Scriptures in our hand we should weep with joy. However, we often see it as something between a burdensome spiritual discipline and a placeholder on the bookshelf. Sure, you will not understand everything you read…it is God’s Word after all. But that which we can read and understand should make us stand in awe that God has chosen to share it with us. Treasure your Bible! Look to it for joy, peace, conviction, and guidance. God has spoken! Never take that for granted!
Almighty God, we could never give You enough praise and adoration for the fact that You have shared with us your thoughts. Give us a renewed passion to look deep into Your Word.
