“When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.’ They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the manger.” – Luke 2:15-16

Christmas tends to be one of the busiest times of the year. You have to send out Christmas cards, decorate the tree, hang the lights, attend the Christmas parties (or even host them!), buy the presents, and wrap the presents. (Some of you probably read that sentence and realized there was something you forgot to do!). So busy! But if there is one time of the year that we should simply be still and reflect, it is Christmas.

When the shepherds heard the news that the Savior was born, they didn’t finish up their tasks or make sure everything was in place before they headed out. They left their work and went immediately to see the incredible thing that God was doing. The gravity of the moment meant nothing else was more important. This Christmas let’s follow the example of the shepherds. Sometimes we simply need to drop everything and spend our time marveling at the manger.

Almighty God, today we stop our busyness to stand and sing, “Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth. For You have proclaimed the Good News that brings us great joy. In Bethlehem, our Savior has been born!”
