“For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Matthew 7:8
This weekend we got 10 inches of snow in less than 24 hours (that is a lot of snow for Pueblo, CO!). I decided toward the end of the storm to go out and get the driveway cleared. My 8-year-old son, Nathanael, wanted to give me a hand. So, we both bundled up, went out, worked hard, and got it shoveled in no time. After we were all finished, Nathanael came over and said, “Dad, do you want to lay in the snow with me?” It was a strange request, but he had just worked really hard so I thought I would humor him. Part of the time we talked and part of the time we just laid there quietly as the snowflakes tickled our faces. I asked him later why he wanted to do that. His answer was, “so we could have ‘man time.’” As my only boy, he really enjoys time with just me; with no sisters and no one else around.
I was really glad that Nathanael asked me to lay down in the snow, because that time was a wonderful blessing to me. I am ashamed to say that many times…maybe most times…I am too busy or too distracted to spend that time with my son. But that is never the case with our Heavenly Father. He is never too busy. He is never too preoccupied. He not only always has time for you, but he will always answer your call to be with just him. So next time you need a little peace, ask God if he would just lay down with you for a while; just you and him. His answer will always be “yes.”
Loving Heavenly Father, today we call to You. Today we ask that You come and spend time with us. Bring us the peace of Your loving presence.
