“Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life– a ransom for many” – Matthew 20:27-28
In God’s system, the greatest person is the one with the biggest servant’s heart. This follows everything the Bible teaches about Jesus, and this lesson is contained throughout the New Testament letters. However, this is still one of the biggest truths we struggle to live out as followers of Jesus Christ…why? I fear the problem is that we have our minds set on things of earth, not things of heaven. Jesus suffered and died on the Cross for our salvation. But the Cross was never meant to be the end. Easter Sunday was always meant to be the climax of the story. Likewise, we are called to serve one another and often suffer for Christ. But this earth is not our home, and the struggles we face today were never meant to be the climax of our story. So I pray that this Easter you would be spurred on to live as a servant to your fellow man, and join with Peter in saying; “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade– kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials” (1 Peter 1:3-6).
