“The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’” – Mark 6:30-31
When life is difficult, and we are tired and frustrated, it is easy to realize we need some time off. However, when things are going really well, and God is blessing what we are doing, it is very easy to forget that we still need rest. In Mark 6, the disciples were on a roll! They were teaching, doing miracles, and people were flocking to them to learn more about Jesus. By all accounts, everything was going great. And it was exactly in that moment that Jesus said; “Come away with me and rest.” Proper rest and quiet time are vital aspects of Godliness. Jesus often got away to rest and pray during His earthly ministry. Even God Himself rested on the seventh day after Creation. So as you pursue God’s will for your life and experience the incredible excitement that comes from seeing Him work in and through you, do not forget the ever-important discipline of rest and quiet time with God. Father, give us the wisdom to come away with You on a regular basis so we can be equipped and revitalized for the next great season of ministry with You.
