“Do not be hasty to speak, and do not be impulsive to make a speech before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.” – Ecclesiastes 5:2

God loves to hear from us. Just like I love to hear from my children when they are excited, scared, or hurting, God is happy to listen whenever we want to talk with him. We should never be afraid to pour our hearts out to him.

But often times Christians are afraid to pray out loud because their prayer might not “measure up” to the beautiful prayers they have heard from others. It is a sad thing when prayers turn into performances. When this happens, you can be sure that the person praying is really speaking to the people around them, not to God. The fact is you will never impress God with your words. No one has ever prayed a prayer that contained information God did not already know or held words so beautiful that God was impressed. To make some grand speech before him is presumptuous at the least and highly arrogant at worst. So never be afraid when you don’t know what to say. Never feel like you have failed when your words are few. Sometimes the greatest prayers of all are simple, humble words from a child who loves their Father.

You are God in heaven, and here am I on earth. So, I’ll let my words be few. I love You, Lord.
