“Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man’s behalf! He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot– come, let us rejoice in him.” – Psalm 66:5-6
The Psalms are rich with examples of the beauty, scope, and power of God’s creation. However, Psalm 66:5 has a unique perspective; it encourages us to stand in awe of the miraculous works that God has done on our behalf. The example given in verse 6 is speaking of Exodus chapter 14 when God parts the Red Sea and the nation of Israel walks across on dry ground. As incredible as creation is, it is even more incredible that God has bent and broken His own laws of nature to work on our behalf! Parting seas, talking animals, earthquakes, calming storms, walking on water, and even telling the sun to move backwards in the sky…God has gone to incredible lengths to teach us and turn us to Him. The most incredible example of this, however, is when God Himself stepped into His own creation, submitted Himself to death, and then destroyed death. This truth gives us complete confidence in the power and goodness of God for our good; “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all– how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32). So as you see the incredible beauty of creation today, remember that all of it exists for the purpose of pointing us, His special creation, toward our Creator. Father, we thank You for Your incredible creation. And we thank You even more for showing us Your power over creation for the purpose of our Salvation.
