And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8

I am not aware of any place in the Bible where God promises to give us everything we want so that we can pursue all of our selfish desires. Though some try to preach this message, they must distort the Scripture in order to do it. When we look at passages like 2 Corinthians 9:8, we see that God promises to give to us in abundance, but there is a “so that” attached to the promise; He gives to us so that we can abound in good works. You see, when we make God’s Kingdom and God’s righteousness our first priority, God will abundantly provide everything we need to accomplish any task that lies before us. But when we live every day in selfish pursuit of material wealth and pleasures, we will quickly find ourselves wanting in every area of life. So take a quick inventory of your life today, and make sure that good works for God’s Kingdom is always your priority. Then see the floodgates of heaven open up and pour out so much blessing you will not know what to do with it all! Father, give us the strength and wisdom to center our lives on Your purposes so that we can see the fulfillment of Your incredible promise for provision.
