“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” – Revelation 3:20

Have you ever heard the old discussion question; “If you could sit and have dinner with any person from history, who would it be?” There is something about human nature that, when we sit around a dinner table together, there seems to always be interesting and even intimate conversation. I have met a few famous and important people in my life, but it has always been on their terms and often surrounded by some very impersonal security measures. I can’t imagine an incredibly important person, let alone a person from history, inviting me over to their home for dinner. With that being said, one of them showing up at my door one evening would be comically improbable. And yet, here we are, faced with this passage from the book of Revelation! Jesus Christ, the greatest and most important person to ever walk this earth, stands at your door…the door to your home…and knocks! As we approach Christmas time, it is easy to get caught up in all the secular celebration surrounding the holidays. However, we should never forget the unfathomable truth behind the most amazing moment in history. When God became a man, He showed His desire to know us personally and intimately. And when He died on the Cross, He showed the extremes to which He was willing to go in order to make that possible for each and every one of us.

Loving Heavenly Father, I am amazed at Your deep and power desire to know me intimately. Please bless me with a pure desire to respond to You with all my heart.

In Christ’s Service,
