“My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the Lord’s declaration. I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at my word.” – Isaiah 66:2
One of the great things about having a great father is the natural desire to make him proud. The father I had growing up was strong, protective, good, and loving. I had a deep desire for him to look favorably on me; to smile and say, “that’s my boy!” That desire kept me out of a lot of trouble. There were many mistakes I never made because I never wanted my father to be disappointed in me. Knowing what my father wanted for me meant I had a goal to shoot for, and that goal made me a better person.
Do you desire to win favor with God? The only way to have a right relationship with God is through Jesus Christ. Righteousness in God’s eyes only comes through him. But once you belong to the family of God, do you have the desire to make him proud? Isaiah 66:2 tells us the kind of child we should be to put a smile on God’s face. God desires children who are humble, submissive to him, and have a healthy respect for his Word. The world says we need to love ourselves more; God says we need to think of ourselves less. The world says, “never let anyone tell you what to do!”; God says, “submit to me.” The world says we make our own truth; God says his Word is the final word. You have an incredible Father, decide now to live a life that puts a smile on his face. That decision will keep you out of a lot of trouble!
Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible sacrifice You made to save us. Thank You for calling us Your children. Now empower us to be the kind of children that put a smile on Your face every day.
In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Shane Cannon
