“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom should I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life—whom should I dread?” – Psalm 27:1

On Monday my son and I were working in the shop. He has a 1995 Mustang that sat for many years, and we are trying to get it up and running again. On this day we were working underneath trying to solve a fuel delivery problem. Now, when I work under a car, I am pretty cautious about making sure it is secure. However, I noticed myself being almost comically cautious when I knew it was my son who would be crawling underneath. I lifted the back of the car and put it on my two newest, heaviest, most secure jack stands; both have three different safety locking mechanisms and each one was rated for more than twice the weight of the entire car…then, just to be safe, I also left two hydraulic jacks in place. There is no way I was going to let anything happen to my boy! My son knows that, so when it came time to get to work, he crawled under that car without a second thought. He knew he was safe.

People naturally desire a life of security. Whether it is emotionally, physically, or financially, we want to feel safe. But the key to security is to ask, “in what person or thing am I placing my trust?” If you are living in daily fear, then the problem is probably not your situation but your source of security. Where is your faith? What is it that you depend on? Who is watching over you? Anything you place your faith in, other than God, will fail you; and if you say your faith is in God but still live in daily fear, then you have not yet fully known the incredible light and salvation of the Lord. Do not offend God by saying your trust is in him while living in fear. Know his light and his salvation, then walk powerfully into the day!

Lord, give us peace and confidence in Your perfect light and salvation. Empower us to live a life without fear.
