“The Lord your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be able to destroy them all at once; otherwise, the wild animals will become too numerous for you.” – Deuteronomy 7:22
“Patience is a virtue.” I remember my mom telling me this over and over again when I was a child. Back then, all I really heard when she said that was, “hold on a minute!” But now I understand she meant so much more than that. Patience is a characteristic of wise and moral people. It is something you must possess if you hope to be successful in life. Patience is a virtue just as important as honesty, integrity, courage, gratitude, or compassion.
This is especially important in our relationship with God. We must learn to trust his process. God is not just about getting to the end result. He has a plan and, because it is God’s plan, every step along the way is important. When we impatiently desire to skip to the end, we miss what it is he is trying to do and, in many cases, put ourselves in danger. Take each step with the Lord. Only move when he says so. Sit with him when he wants you to take it slow and trust him when he says it is time to go. The Lord will drive out the Enemy before you, it just may take some time; but that time is purposeful.
Lord, give us the virtue of patience. Give us the wisdom to be slow when it is time to be slow and to run when it is time to run. Let us look for You, not only in the goal, but in every bit of the process along the way.
