“Therefore, I will give him the many as a portion, and he will receive the mighty as spoil, because he willingly submitted to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet he bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels.” – Isaiah 53:12
We have probably all known incredibly driven people; those people who live every day with a singular focus. They often become very successful in their chosen endeavor whether it is sports, business, or politics. In fact, it is not hard to look around this world and find people who are incredibly driven toward fame, power, and fortune. But have you ever met someone with a singular focus to sacrifice, suffer, and die for others? This is the picture we get of Jesus from every one of the Gospels. He was a man dead set on literally giving all of himself for everyone else. Sacrifice was his singular focus.
But what may be even more incredible about the story is that we, as mankind, not only let it happen, but we were the ones who made it happen. How could people take the flawless expression of what humanity was meant to be from the beginning – a sinless man with a perfect relationship to God – and count him as a rebel; number him with the transgressors?! This view of the depths of our depravity, allows us to see how incredible it is that Christ’s singular focus was to rescue us. How could someone so good and perfect set out to give up everything for people so ugly and lost?! Our Messiah is amazing beyond comprehension!!!
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect plan from the beginning. Thank You for the incredible sacrifice of Your perfect Son. Let us intentionally take time to reflect on what has actually taken place through the incarnation, suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus. And let that reflection affect every moment we live and every decision we make.
In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Shane Cannon
