“For this is what the Lord God says: See, I myself will search for my flock and look for them.” – Ezekiel 34:11

Have you ever been at a park and seen how beautiful it is when children play? They run, laugh, climb, and jump, without a care in the world. Whether they realize it or not, their carefree joy comes from their confidence that someone is watching over them. How sad would it be for a child to be at a playground, constantly and stressfully watching their parents just to make sure they weren’t going to be left behind? How sad would it be if their worry of abandonment kept them from enjoying the beautiful world they live in? But a child who lives with incredible joy is a sure sign that they feel completely secure, wonderfully cared for, and constantly watched over by someone who loves them. A child at peace speaks of a wonderful caregiver.

We were never meant to live in fear. When we are in Christ, God has us securely in his arms. Even when we stray, he looks after us. He will never leave us or forsake us. He will never let us fall so far that we are beyond rescue. Because this is true, we can stop worrying about our security; that is in his hands. So, what should occupy our minds? We should concentrate on living a life that brings him glory. The glory of God should be our number one concern from day to day. The question we ask is, “how can I live a life that shines light in this dark world and displays the incredible God I worship?” As long as you are worried about your security, you will live a life of fear. That fear enslaves you. When you have peace in God’s grasp on you, you can live an abundant life, unafraid to glorify him in every action and conversation. That is what we were created to do. Our peace speaks of the greatness of the one who cares for us.

Heavenly Father, take my mind off of my security – that rests in Your hands – and set my mind squarely on Your glory each and every day.

In Christ’s Service,

Pastor Shane Cannon
