“Obey your leaders and submit to them, since they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.” – Hebrews 13:17
Yesterday I had lunch with a group of friends who are all pastors in our area. We all come from different backgrounds and shepherd very different groups, so it is always edifying to hear everyone’s stories of their latest ministry victories and challenges. Some of them do not have it as easy as I do; they pastor churches who are struggling to make ends meet, or churches who have been through splits, or churches who are rebuilding from difficult times. Some of them shared stories of how they have been hurt or are struggling. Many have been treated unfairly and betrayed by those they minister to. But around the room, no matter the current situation, there was a common theme: every one of them had a deep desire to love their people better and reach their community more effectively.
I share that with all of you today because I want you to know how much your Christian leaders love you. Always remember those who are pouring into your life. They carry a burden for you that you may not realize. So, I want to encourage you to take a moment and pray for your pastor, your worship leaders, your Bible study leader, or your favorite preacher on the radio. They do what they do, day in and day out, because they deeply love you and desire to see you grow in Christ. Their job is hard, and it takes a great deal of sacrifice. Pray for their strength, because their spiritual health will always benefit your spiritual growth.
Almighty God, we thank You for the incredible people that You have chosen to use in our lives. Thank You for those You fill with Your Spirit in order to bless us and grow us. Watch over them, protect them from the enemy, strengthen them, and give them joy in their work.
In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Shane Cannon
