“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” – Psalm 8:3-4 (ESV)
Over my years of ministry, I cannot count the number of people who have told me God has dealt with them unfairly. He has not done what they have asked, or he has done something they believe is harmful. I have heard people say they are bitter and hurt over the way God has treated them. And, if I am honest, I have felt this same way at times in my life. When we think this way, it shows that our perspective and our expectations of God are completely skewed.
Psalm 8:3-4 should be a wakeup call. The question we should be asking is, “why would the God of all creation even think of me? Why would he even be concerned with me and my needs?” The expectation of God to fulfill our desires is incredibly arrogant. So, why would we think God would even notice us? The truth is, he not only notices us, but he loves us…so much that he sent his one and only Son to die on the cross to save us from our sins. So, if the God of all creation loves us with a perfect love, our response should not be “why don’t you do what I say,” but, “I am completely amazed that you have a perfect plan for my life!” Why in the world would God ever care about me?…I really don’t know, but the truth is, he does!
Mighty, powerful, perfect, and loving heavenly Father, I do not know why You would ever give me even a second glance. I can’t comprehend how You love me and want me to know You personally. Forgive me for the moments in my life where I question Your goodness or expect You to do my will. Let me clearly see the incredible, undeserved blessing of Your love for me and live in constant amazement of that every day.
