“God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.” – 1 John 4:9

A small child often does not understand what a parent does for their safety and wellbeing. A child doesn’t understand how that trip to the dentist or the nurse giving them a chicken pox vaccination could possibly be good for them. It hurts! But we know that we do these things for our children because of our deep love for them. They may not understand; they may even be angry at us for making them go through it. But we know, and hopefully they will begin to understand, that everything we do, we do for their good. We hope that they will see our love for them and then begin to trust us even when it doesn’t make sense.

Yesterday our church family experienced a horrible tragedy. As a pastor I would love to give an answer to all those who have asked me, “why would God do this?!” But I have to admit, I don’t know. I do not understand how this could be for our good. I do not understand how a loving God could let this happen. But the one thing I do understand is that the God who has given his one and only Son to rescue us will not abandoned us now. I know that God’s sacrificial love is perfect, and because of that I can trust him. I cling to that fact today and I pray that you will do the same.

Perfect, loving, Heavenly Father we need You now. We don’t know what You are doing or why You are doing it. We don’t understand! How can this be for our good? It hurts! Please let us see Your perfect love right now. Please show us Jesus and remind us how incredible Your love is and how You will never leave us or forsake us.
