“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.” – Isaiah 40:28
All of us struggle with a lack of faith at times. Because the Bible clearly refers to God in a personal manner and talks about our interactions with Him in terms of a relationship, we often make the mistake of assigning Him the shortcomings of the other personalities and relationships in our life. Whether we have actually said it out loud, or simply in the depths of our hearts, all of us at times have assigned these limitations to God. We have claimed, “God cannot fix this situation,” “God could never use something like this for my good,” and even “God cannot continue to love someone like me.” This kind of thinking is a huge mistake and a complete misrepresentation of our God. Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? He is the everlasting God, creator of everything, and there are no limits to His strength or understanding. We must acknowledge these truths about God so that we can move on to claim the much more famous passage that appears just a few verses later; “Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:30-31) Good, powerful, and loving Father; please open our hearts and minds to the limitless nature of Your wisdom, strength, and love so that we can truly hope in You to fulfill every desire and pour into us everything we need for abundant life.
