When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” – Acts 4:13

One of the things that can often keep us from sharing Jesus with others is our fear and insecurity about our own personal knowledge or ability. We think that others will be able to debate us, prove us wrong, or ask questions that we cannot answer. This fear often keeps us sheepish and silent. The leaders of the early church, however, were anything but sheepish. In fact, their boldness and courage was astonishing to those around them. So it is important to remember that they were also anything but well-educated in the eyes of the world. The Gospel was spread by every-day, ordinary people like fishermen and tax collectors. So, what gave them such power? They had been with Jesus! This truth in itself was a testimony to those who heard their message. Their boldness and confidence came from their absolute resolve that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. This kind of power can only come from Jesus. So, are you shy, uneducated, or a bad public speaker?…Good! Because Jesus has said, “My power is made perfect in weakness!” (2 Corinthians 12:9). Heavenly Father, give us the strength and boldness to speak, not because of our own wisdom and power, but because of Yours.
