“In a loud voice they sang: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!’ Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!’” – Revelation 5:12-13

We are very familiar with the Christmas story; with the Savior of the world appearing as a tiny, helpless child. We are familiar with the life of Jesus and how He was without splendor and was humble in heart. We are familiar with the humiliating trial and excruciating crucifixion. But we should never let our familiarity with these truths detract from our amazement over them.

Jesus Christ could have easily elicited our worship by performing an overwhelming act of power, control, and authority over us and all the earth. But instead, He showed His love for us by performing an overwhelming act of power, control, and authority over sin and death…on our behalf! This is why we join with the inhabitants of heaven in singing, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain!”

Heavenly Father, the power that could have so easily destroyed us was, instead, employed to rescue us. Let this truth be on the forefront of our minds today, and let our entire life be lifted up in praise to You.

In Christ’s Service,
Pastor Shane Cannon
